Tether, the powerhouse behind the world’s largest stablecoin by trading volume, USDT, has unveiled a strategic plan to expand its presence in the US market, a landscape that has evolved significantly under the Trump administration.  With the recent enactment of the GENIUS Act, which establishes a new regulatory framework for stablecoins and cryptocurrency firms issuing dollar-pegged cryptocurrencies, Tether is eager to capitalize on these developments. Tether’s US Market Comeback In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Tether’s CEO, Paolo Ardoino, reaffirmed the firm’s plans to launch a new token, USAT, designed to comply with US regulations. Central to Tether’s strategy is its partnership with Rumble, a growing video platform with a substantial user base.  Related Reading: Did Bitcoin Top? Top Trader Warns Of Brutal $98,000 Liquidity Sweep Notably, Tether holds a 48% stake in Rumble, following a notable $775 million investment in the company made in 2024. Ardoino emphasized the significance of Rumble’s 51 million monthly active users, stating, “That is already a huge amount of users if you compare to what the competition has now in the United States.” The US stablecoin market includes Circle (CRCL), the issuer of the second-largest dollar-pegged cryptocurrency, USD Coin (USDC), and a host of new entrants in the stablecoin arena.  The Trump administration has prioritized the growth of privately issued stablecoins, particularly through the GENIUS Act, which aims to create a supportive environment for issuers.  Tether, having faced scrutiny in the past—including a $41 million fine for allegedly misrepresenting its reserves—has recently made a concerted effort to re-establish its foothold in the US market.  Aiming For $500 Billion Valuation With a profit of $4.9 billion recorded in the second quarter of the year, Tether has strategically invested its reserves in cash-like assets, including US Treasuries, generating significant interest income.  The company’s recent ventures also extend into various industries, encompassing artificial intelligence (AI), energy, and commodities. Ardoino outlined that Rumble’s upcoming crypto wallet will play a crucial role not only for USAT but also for Tether’s tokenized gold product. Rumble’s CEO, Chris Pavlovski, echoed Ardoino’s sentiments, stating that the partnership embodies the principles of free speech and decentralized finance (DeFi).  “Rumble represents free speech just as Tether’s cryptocurrency and a decentralized internet represent true liberty,” he noted, highlighting the shared vision that unites the two companies. Related Reading: XRP Flips Green For First Time Since 2017, Pundit Predicts 500% Rally Additionally, Tether is seeking to raise up to $20 billion for a 3% stake, potentially valuing the company at around $500 billion. Ardoino described this valuation as a bargain, although he did not provide detailed calculations.  Should this fundraising effort succeed, Tether plans to allocate part of the proceeds towards developing an artificial intelligence platform designed to function on low-cost smartphones in emerging markets, particularly in Africa and South America. Tether’s CEO also mentioned the creation of an offline, artificial intelligence-powered language translation application as part of this initiative. According to Arkham, a wallet labeled “Tether: Bitcoin Reserves” received 8,889 Bitcoin in a single transfer from Bitfinex. Related Reading: Bitcoin Buyers Step Back After Failed Push Beyond $115,000: Data The move added roughly $1 billion to Tether’s holdings and pushed the firm’s Bitcoin stash to about $9.8 billion based on the market price. It was one of the biggest single top-ups to its BTC balance this year. Quarter-End Buying Pattern Based on reports, the timing of the buy was not random. Blockchain records show Tether has made similar quarter-end additions in September 2024, December 2024, and March 2025. Analysts say the pattern points to a deliberate effort to bolster reserves ahead of public attestations. Tether’s second-quarter attestation listed close to $9 billion in Bitcoin. The next official report is expected in late October and will show whether recent purchases are reflected on paper. A One-Time Transfer And Wider Moves The transfer from Bitfinex highlights close ties between the exchange and the company behind USDT. Activity like this has drawn attention because of the size and the source. In June, Tether also routed roughly $1.4 billion worth of BTC to Twenty One Capital, which is run by CEO Jack Mallers. That deal fed talk that Tether might reallocate some reserves into other assets, including gold, but CEO Paolo Ardoino pushed back on those claims and said Bitcoin remains central to the company’s plan. US Push And New Stablecoin Tether is also expanding in the US. The firm has set up a domestic branch led by Bo Hines, who previously advised the White House on crypto policy. Reports say Tether is planning a federally compliant stablecoin called USAT as part of that effort. The move suggests the company wants a bigger foothold inside US regulatory frameworks while keeping its global operations intact. USDT Growth And Market Role Crypto trackers show USDT’s circulating supply at roughly $175 billion, a 10% rise over the last quarter. That growth underscores the stablecoin’s role as a go-to dollar proxy for traders and DeFi users. With more USDT in circulation, exchanges and liquidity pools rely on it heavily during sharp market moves. Attestations are meant to build confidence, but critics still press for clearer transparency on how reserves are managed. Markets will be watching the late-October report closely. If Tether’s filings match on-chain activity, that could calm some concerns. If they do not, scrutiny is likely to grow. Featured image from Unsplash, chart from TradingView

The industry’s largest stablecoin issuer, Tether (USDT), is reportedly in discussions with a series of leading firms including SoftBank Group and Ark Investment Management, for a significant funding round aimed at raising between $15 billion and $20 billion.  This capital influx could potentially value the company at an astonishing $500 billion. Bloomberg News first reported these developments, indicating that Tether is exploring private placement opportunities to solidify its position in the market. SoftBank And Ark Invest’s Potential Involvement Per the report, the involvement of SoftBank and Ark could significantly enhance Tether’s credibility in the eyes of mainstream investors, particularly as the company seeks to overcome previous scrutiny regarding its role in the cryptocurrency ecosystem. Following a period of intense volatility and a significant price movement, Bitcoin’s market is now experiencing a predictable consolidation phase, characterized by what traders call intraday chop. This is not a sign of weakness but rather a natural and often necessary stage in any market cycle. A Necessary Foundation For The Next Move In an X post, a dedicated crypto enthusiast, Uniswap Gems, provided a clear-eyed view of Bitcoin’s current price action, stating that the market is in a predictable phase of intraday chop after a period of extreme volatility.  Related Reading: Countdown To ‘Bitcoin Bottom Day’: Why September 21 Could Change Everything Uniswap Gems noted that the recent huge, volatile move caught many traders off guard. As a result, the market is now in a period of consolidation. This chop is a sideways price movement within a tight range, which is often needed to establish a solid bottom after a sharp price swing. He cautions that this phase could last for the next 2 to 3 days, making it a difficult environment for those looking for quick directional trades. For a bullish trend to resume, BTC needs to flip $113,000 into a support level. If this happens, it could set the stage for a retest of the $115,000 range. However, if BTC fails to hold its current levels and makes new local lows, Uniswap Gems expects a more significant drop all the way down to sub $105,000, which would be a decisive move to the downside. Analyst Philakone, a crypto investor and day trader, has issued a stark reminder about the inherent volatility of BTC and historical price action in bear markets. His analysis focuses on the severe drawdowns that have consistently followed previous all-time highs. According to Philakone, BTC price has a historical tendency to drop between 75% to 85% from its peak during a bear market. This is a crucial point that he believes many people struggle to grasp, especially after a prolonged bull run. However, if BTC’s all-time high for the current cycle reaches $125,000, a 75% drop would bring the price down to a mere $30,000. Market Still Fragile Despite Heavy Liquidations Crypto trader known as KillaXBT has adopted a highly cautious stance on the BTC market. For the first time in a while, the expert is fading this BTC dip despite a massive liquidation event of 1.5 billion. His decision is based on a technical analysis of a key market indicator of the USDT dominance chart. Related Reading: Bitcoin Price Retreats Lower Again – Is This Just a Healthy Dip? Tether, the issuer of the world’s largest stablecoin by market capitalization and trading volume, USDT, is reportedly seeking to raise between $15 billion and $20 billion through a private placement, potentially elevating the company’s valuation to around $500 billion.  As recent reports highlighted on Tuesday, this ambitious financial maneuver could position Tether alongside some of the most prominent private enterprises, including OpenAI, which was valued at $300 billion during its recent fundraising round.
