The Shiba Inu price has recorded an unexpected gain of more than 13% recently, decisively breaking away from the extended bear trend that had suppressed its momentum. Notably, 2026 is already shaping up to be a transformative year for the crypto market, with meme coins like Shiba Inu benefiting from the broader bullish shift and growing demand. With the Shiba Inu price now testing higher valuation zones, on-chain data has revealed the underlying forces behind its recent price surge    Key Drivers Behind The Shiba Inu Price Rally Shiba Inu surged more than 13% on Sunday, January 4, as the broader 2026 meme coin frenzy began unexpectedly and continued to rotate capital among speculative assets. According to data from Santiment, a crypto analytics platform, SHIB’s sudden upside move was largely driven by aggressive accumulation from top whales rather than a surge in retail demand.  Related Reading: Here Are The Top Meme Coins Leading The Crypto Recovery Ahead Of Dogecoin And Shiba Inu In a post on X, Santiment analysts noted that large holders were tightening their grip on Shiba Inu’s supply amid muted retail distribution. This behaviour points to growing confidence among dominant whale wallets and suggests that the recent price rally was not fueled by short-term, hype-driven buying.  Price data also shows the Shiba Inu climb began at the start of January this year, after spending several weeks consolidating near recent lows. Notably, the recent bounce followed a prolonged downtrend that spanned late October through December 2025, making the 13% price jump stand out as a clear shift in momentum.  Overlaying the price action is a rising line on Santiment’s chart that tracks the percentage of SHIB supply held by the top 10 whale wallets. While prices fluctuated throughout the second half of 2025, this metric steadily increased, signaling consistent accumulation even as broader market conditions remained weak.  At the time of the analysis, the 10 largest Shiba Inu wallets collectively controlled about 62.65% of the total supply. Such a high level of concentration is unusual and gives large token holders significant influence over short-term price movements. The single largest wallet alone held roughly 41% of the total SHIB supply, valued at approximately $3.3 billion.  Related Reading: Shiba Inu Lead Dev Reacts To Wild Development On Coinbase Involving $35 Million In SHIB Meanwhile, other top whale wallets each controlled between 2.8% and 5.7%, with several individual addresses worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Notably, the timing of Shiba Inu’s 13% price jump aligns with a visible uptick in whale concentration at the far right of the chart. As more supply became locked up, available liquidity thinned, allowing relatively modest buying pressure to push prices significantly higher.  Shiba Inu’s Total Gains In 2026 So Far According to Santiment, Shiba Inu’s performance in 2026 now stands at a gain of more than 32% Year-to-Date (YTD). If wallet concentration remains elevated and whales continue to grow wealthier, volatility is likely to persist as prices respond quickly to shifts in large-holder behavior. At the time of writing, Shiba Inu is trading at $0.00000916, reflecting a roughly 5% increase in just one day. Featured image from Adobe Stock, chart from Tradingview.com

Shiba Inu has just logged its most intense burst of large-holder activity in half a year, raising questions over whether fresh volatility – and potentially renewed selling pressure – is around the corner. On-chain analytics firm Santiment reported the move on X, highlighting a six-month chart of Shiba Inu’s price, exchange balances and large transfers. According to the firm, “Shiba Inu has seen the highest amount of whale transfers since June 6th today, happening in tandem with a +1.06T net change to the amount of SHIB on exchanges. The #24 market cap in crypto is likely to see high volatility in the coming days.” What Does This Mean For The Shiba Inu Price? The chart shows 406 individual transactions exceeding $100,000 in value within a single day, the highest reading since early June. The second-highest peak occurred during the October 10 market meltdown, when roughly 300 SHIB whales were active, and the third came in mid-July, as more than 280 whales executed transfers. Related Reading: Shibarium Hack Fallout: Shiba Inu Team Criticized For Not Reporting Breach These “whale” transfers represent activity from large holders, trading desks and liquidity providers whose moves can materially affect market liquidity and order-book depth. At the same time, Shiba Inu’s exchange supply has jumped. Santiment’s overlay of “Supply on Exchanges (SHIB)” reveals a clear, abrupt uptick, annotated as “1.06T More SHIB On Exchanges in 24 Hours.” This reflects a net inflow of around 1.06 trillion tokens into exchange wallets, meaning more SHIB is now sitting in venues where it can be traded immediately. In market-structure terms, the combination of record recent whale activity and a sharp rise in exchange balances creates conditions that often precede significant price swings. Moving coins from self-custody to exchanges does not guarantee that they will be sold, but it increases the portion of circulating supply that is “sale-ready” and able to hit the order books at short notice. Related Reading: Will The Shiba Inu Price Hit A New All-Time High In 2025? Machine Learning Algorithm Answers Whether that translates into an outright dump is not yet visible on-chain. The same footprint could reflect whales preparing to sell, to arbitrage across venues, to supply liquidity, or to rebalance positions in anticipation of broader market moves. Santiment itself stops short of a directional call, limiting its guidance to the expectation that the Shiba Inu token “is likely to see high volatility in the coming days.” For now, the data point is clear: Shiba Inu’s largest holders have become more active than at any time since early June, and over a trillion additional tokens have shifted onto exchanges in just 24 hours. The direction of the next major move will depend on how that newly mobile supply is deployed. At press time, SHIB traded at $0.00000859. On-chain data shows that Shiba Inu diamond hands are holding on to their coins despite the meme coin’s underperformance in recent times. This comes as SHIB bulls eye a new all-time high (ATH), with the meme coin potentially reaching $0.00009.  Shiba Inu Holders Are Refusing To Sell Despite SHIB’s Underperformance Glassnode data shows that Shiba Inu’s holder retention rate is currently at 96%, having been on an uptrend over the last thirty days. The metric tracks the percentage of addresses that have held SHIB over the past 30 days. An uptick indicates that holders aren’t selling but instead even accumulating more coins.  Related Reading: Shiba Inu Market Maker Is On The Move With Billions Of SHIB, Here’s What We Know Furthermore, Santiment data confirms that investors are still accumulating Shiba Inu, despite SHIB’s underperformance. Notably, the number of holders have continued to rise amid the price downtrend, and there are now 1.53 million SHIB holders. This comes as the meme coin looks to hold above the psychological $0.000010 price level.  However, a negative for SHIB is the downtrend in the holdings of Shiba Inu whales. Santiment data shows these whales have continued to offload their coins amid the meme coin’s underperformance. These whales refer to those holding 10 million coins and above. Notably, they account for over 98% of the meme coin’s total supply.  This also explains why there have been more exchange inflows than outflows, highlighting the fact that there is currently more supply than demand. On September 5, the exchange inflows were 73.73 billion SHIB while the outflows were 46.25 billion coins. Meanwhile, supply on exchanges remains sideways, with whales choosing to offload their coins and stay on the sidelines rather than actively buying the dip.  SHIB Bulls Eye New ATH Shiba Inu bulls are eyeing a new all-time high for the meme coin despite its underperformance this year. Crypto analyst Javon Marks has also fuelled the bullish outlook for the SHIB price, predicting that it could record a rally of over 500%, which would bring it close to its current ATH of $0.00008845. Related Reading: Shiba Inu Price Forms Double Bottom At Demand Zone — What To Expect In an X post, Marks said that Shiba Inu has confirmed a bullish pattern in a regular bull divergence with the MACD Histogram. He explained that this suggests that the SHIB price is about to record a major bullish reversal to the upside, which can include a move of over 163% back into the $0.00003 range. The crypto analyst further remarked that this move may only be the start. He stated that the 163% move could be part of an over 570% run to the $0.000081 breakout target if the Shiba Inu price continues to hold well broken out of an older structure.  At the time of writing, the Shiba Inu price is trading at around $0.00001230, up in the last 24 hours, according to data from CoinMarketCap. On-chain data shows Shiba Inu (SHIB) has its supply more concentrated on the largest holders than other assets like Ethereum (ETH) and Pepe (PEPE). Shiba Inu Has 62% Of Its Supply Controlled By Top 10 Whales In a new post on X, the on-chain analytics firm Santiment has shared how some top coins currently compare against each other in terms of the percentage of supply held by the ten largest wallets on the respective networks. Below is a chart showing the trend in this metric for eight cryptocurrencies: Shiba Inu, Ethereum, Pepe, USDT, USDC, DAI, Chainlink (LINK), and Uniswap (UNI). As is visible in the graph, the stablecoin USDC has the lowest amount of supply concentrated on the top 10 addresses among these assets at around 27%. Chainlink and DAI come close with the metric sitting at 32% and 33%, respectively. Others like Uniswap and Ethereum, however, have a more significant part of their supply under the control of these humongous entities: 51% and 49%, respectively. One asset that particularly stands out is Shiba Inu, with a massive 62% of its supply belonging to the ten largest whales on the network. For comparison, the other memecoin on the list, Pepe, has the same metric at 39%. Generally, the centralization of supply on just a few hands isn’t a constructive sign for any cryptocurrency’s stability, as tokens signify power on the network. It’s especially relevant in the case of a proof-of-stake (PoS) asset like Ethereum. As Santiment explains, As a retail trader, it’s generally safer to hold coins with less supply held by the most elite whales. There is less risk of sudden dumps or price manipulation should an asset’s largest whales decide to exit their positions. Given this, the assets like Ethereum, Uniswap, and Shiba Inu that currently have a majority of their supply or close to it in the hands of the top 10 whales may not be in the best position right now. In some other news, the cryptocurrency market sentiment is on the verge of extreme greed, according to the Fear & Greed Index. The Fear & Greed Index is an indicator created by Alternative that inputs a few different factors to determine the investor mentality as a score lying between zero and hundred. As displayed above, the cryptocurrency Fear & Greed has a value of 73 at the moment. This corresponds to the presence of a strong sentiment of greed present among the traders. Historically, markets have often moved in the direction that goes contrary to the expectations of the crowd. The probability of a contrary move is especially strong in the extreme ends of the index. For now, the market is still outside of the extreme greed zone, but only by a couple of units. On-chain data shows Shiba Inu has a high concentration of supply on its largest holders. Here’s how Ethereum and other altcoins compare. Top 10 Shiba Inu Wallets Control The Majority Of Supply In a new post on X, the on-chain analytics firm Santiment has talked about how the total holdings of the ten largest whales compares for four altcoins: Ethereum (ETH), Shiba Inu (SHIB), Chainlink (LINK), and Toncoin (TON). Related Reading: Bitcoin Still In Bull Market, On-Chain Indicator Confirms Below is the chart shared by the analytics firm that shows the trend in this metric for these assets over the last few months. As displayed in the graph, Shiba Inu has the metric at the highest level right now, with around 61.3% of the memecoin’s supply in the control of the ten largest investors on the network. Ethereum follows up SHIB in second with the indicator currently sitting at 46.1%. While the top 10 whales don’t quite control the majority of the supply for ETH, they are still quite close to do so. Toncoin and Chainlink, however, have the metric at 33.1% and 32.8%, respectively, which suggests the supplies of the two are more evenly distributed throughout the network. In general, a high amount of supply centralization on a few hands isn’t constructive for any cryptocurrency. “If these wallets decide to sell, it can cause sharp price drops, creating greater risks for smaller investors,” notes Santiment. That said, the analytics firm also says: However, if these large holders keep holding or accumulating, it generally signals confidence in the project and can actually reward traders who collectively hold less power, and rely more heavily on the behavior of a few large key stakeholders. Regardless, it’s important to remember this level of concentration can make a coin more volatile, as a few players have the power to influence price movements. From the chart, it’s apparent that Shiba Inu, Ethereum, and Chainlink have all seen the indicator move sideways during the last few months, which means that their largest whales have been holding tight onto their coins. This also implies, though, that these holders haven’t been buying more, either. Related Reading: Ethereum Could Crash To $1,700 If This Support Fails, Analyst Says Toncoin stands out as the altcoin that has seen the top 10 whales increase their supply share during the period. This active accumulation can naturally be a bullish sign for the asset. Out of these cryptocurrencies, Shiba Inu could be the one most likely to suffer from destabilization, as it’s only in the hands of just ten investors to make market moves that involve the majority of the supply. Toncoin and Chainlink would be the on the other end of the spectrum, with their supply distribution being more healthy. SHIB Price At the time of writing, Shiba Inu is trading around $0.0000152, down almost 22% over the last week. Featured image from Dall-E, Santiment.net, chart from TradingView.com

Shiba Inu has constantly managed to trade above $0.000021 last week amidst an ongoing tussle between the bulls and bears. On-chain data has indicated some serious whale movements during this period, with trillions of SHIB shuffled in and out of exchanges.  The price of SHIB went through a decline earlier in the week from an extended selloff in the previous week. As the week progressed, things started to change into bullish action during the weekend up until a resistance just below $0.000028. Interestingly, on-chain transaction data from whales shows the major holders moved trillions of SHIB over the weekend, with 3.19 trillion SHIB movement in the past 24 hours.  Recent on-Chain Data Shows Large SHIB Whale Activity According to IntoTheBlock’s large transaction volume data, the number of Shiba Inu transactions over $100,000 went through a major uptick last week, with the value of transactions greater than $100,000 reaching $661.5 million. On April 19th alone, SHIB transactions in this cohort reached 6.36 trillion SHIB worth $144.76 million. Large transactions in the last 24 hours particularly reached 3.19 trillion SHIB worth $82.49 million.  Related Reading: Were Bitcoin Miners Behind The BTC Price Crash Below $60,000? With so much SHIB on the move, the big question is where are these whales sending their tokens. Interestingly, on-chain data showed large transactions consisting of a to and fro movement into and outside exchanges, indicating mixed feelings from large holders. A notable transaction involved the movement of 100 billion SHIB tokens into a crypto exchange on Sunday. Speculations from investors are that this could be a potential selloff from the whale, suggesting that there is a possibility of a price decline in the short term. What Does This Mean For Shiba Inu Holders? For average SHIB investors, whale activity can be both promising and worrying. While more large holders and transactions may indicate growing mainstream interest and adoption of the token, their moves can also significantly impact price. A positive price movement is enjoyed by Shiba Inu when whales are accumulating from exchanges. However, movement into exchanges suggests a selloff, as in the case of the 100 billion SHIB transaction on Sunday. Related Reading: Ethereum Enters Accumulation Phase As $500 Million ETH Leave Exchanges At the time of writing, SHIB is trading at $0.00002726, a 6.65% increase from 0.00002556 in the past 12 hours. Shiba Inu is also up by 16% on a larger seven-day timeframe and is on the way to displacing Cardano in the market cap rankings.  SHIB’s price action this week should be full of action as the week unfolds, with the bulls now retesting a resistance at $0.000028. According to IntoTheBlock’s “In/Out Of The Money” metric, 6.62 trillion SHIB tokens were bought at this price level, with 28,760 addresses waiting to make a profit. A break over this price level indicates further resistance levels at $0.000029 and $0.000030.
