An onchain investigator has flagged a major breach at Iran-based Nobitex, where hackers made off with more than $81 million in digital assets. Related Reading: Tether Enforces Freeze On $12 Million In Tron Funds Over Illicit Activity Based on reports from blockchain sleuth ZachXBT, at least $81.7 million was moved out of the exchange’s hot wallets on June 16, 2025. The stolen funds came from both the Tron network and various Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) chains. Massive Funds Drained From Hot Wallets According to ZachXBT’s Telegram post, the first chunk—$49 million—went through a vanity address that read “TKFuckiRGCTerrorists…mNX.” A second custom address, “0xffFFfFFffFF…Dead,” was used to pull the rest. These special wallet names aren’t random. They show how attackers slipped around Nobitex’s checks and grabbed funds meant to stay locked down. Vanity Addresses Exploit Access Controls Experts say the use of these human‑readable addresses points to a flaw in the exchange’s internal controls. “Attackers managed to infiltrate systems that should have blocked unauthorized wallets,” noted Hakan Unal of Cyvers security. The exchange confirmed that it spotted the breach quickly and suspended the affected hot wallets. Cold Storage And User Security Assurances Nobitex says users’ main funds are safe in cold storage, and only a fraction of hot‑wallet assets were hit. However, other data from Glassnode suggests that investor demand for BTC remains solid.
The recent escalation in tensions between Israel and Iran has added a new wave of anxiety in the global markets, causing investors to adopt a more cautious stance towards investing. At the same time, Bitcoin’s technical chart is sending mixed signals that could lead to a breakout in either direction. After a failed attempt to reclaim $110,000 earlier this week, the price has now slipped below the 21-day moving average, but still above support at the 50-day moving average. This confluence of moving averages, coupled with a clearly defined trendline resistance, has brought Bitcoin into a tightening price structure of a descending triangle pattern. Related Reading: Crypto Bloodbath: Over $1 Billion Liquidated As Iran-Israel Tensions Erupt Descending Triangle With Tightening Range And Bearish Pressure According to a crypto analyst on X, Bitcoin is forming a descending triangle pattern on the daily candlestick timeframe chart. Interestingly, technical analysis rules state that the descending triangle pattern setup is typically associated with bearish breakdowns. The chart image accompanying the post shows repeated rejection from a downward-sloping trendline that began when Bitcoin reached a new all-time high of $111,814 on May 22. The second rejection was a lower high around $110,000 earlier this week. On the other hand, the base of the triangle has remained constant with a support zone around $102,000. The analyst noted that the 21-day moving average (21MA), shown in blue, is exerting downward pressure, acting as resistance, while the 50-day moving average (50MA), in green, is acting as a temporary support floor. As price action continues to narrow within this triangle move, the market is on the projection for a decisive move in any direction. Whether it breaks above the resistance or falls through the support will likely dictate the next major trend. However, if the descending triangle pattern continues to play out with lower highs and steady support, the breakout will lean more towards a downside breakout. Israel-Iran Tensions May Push Breakout Or Breakdown The ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran could be the spark that forces Bitcoin out of its current range. Notably, a wave of liquidations hit the crypto market on Friday as reports of an Israeli airstrike on Iran made the news. During periods of geopolitical instability like this, Bitcoin often trades in unpredictable ways. There are two possible outcomes for the leading cryptocurrency from here. It could act as a haven, or it could be sold off for liquidity. If the fear in traditional markets continues to increase, Bitcoin could break below the $102,000 support in the coming trading sessions, confirming the descending triangle’s bearish implications. Related Reading: Billionaire Snaps Up $100 Million Of Trump Coin – Details However, if bullish momentum returns, a break above the descending trendline could invalidate the bearish pattern and open the door for a retest of the $110,800 all-time high region. In a strategic shift from its stance on digital currency, Iran has decided to regulate the crypto industry instead of restricting it. The decision was announced by the Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Abdolnaser Hemmati at a national event in Tehran, where he said that they aim to minimize the risks associated with crypto while reaping all its benefits. The country’s Central Bank will be in charge of managing all the digital assets. From laying down the regulatory framework and helping financial institutions adopt digital assets to monitoring transactions and ensuring compliance, it’s all up to the Central Bank. It has already published a set of guidelines regarding tax compliance and anti-money laundering measures. Currently, Iranian investors hold between $30B and $50B worth of crypto assets, roughly one-third of the company’s total gold market. The Crucial Timing of the Decision The timing of this decision couldn’t have been better. Hemmati believes that will have several benefits: Attract domestic and foreign investors Create more job opportunities and drive employment among the youth Integrate Iran with the global economy and simplify its access to a much broader range of financial services (those that only allow crypto transactions) But there’s one major reason that beats everything else – protection from sanctions. As Donald Trump prepares for his second term in the White House, Iran must brace itself. The first time Trump was president, he withdrew the Iran nuclear deal. One of the reasons he cited was that the deal was one-sided, benefitting mostly Iran and not bringing much of the peace it promised to the other countries. Note: The Iran Nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), is a landmark agreement between Iran and the superpowers of the world (including the USA) under which Iran promised to dismantle its nuclear program and allow the other countries to closely inspect its nuclear facilities in return for relief from billions of dollars worth of sanctions. Will the US Impose Sanctions? With the sanctions back, Iran’s economy took a massive hit, and the country has been struggling ever since. Hence, now that Trump is back, there are rumors that he might revive his so-called ‘maximum pressure policy’ against Iran with more sanctions. The chances of a revival of this policy seem low. JPMorgan analyst Arun Jayaram states that imposing more sanctions on Iran can severely affect the global oil supply, removing approximately 1 million barrels of oil per day from the supply chain. But you never know with Trump, so Iran has wisely decided to buckle up. Iran is making other compromises as well. For instance, on Tuesday, the UN declared that Iran has decided to stop producing enriched uranium that it could use to make bombs. Also, new Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had previously said that establishing cordial relations with the West, getting relief from sanctions, and restoring ‘normality’ to Iranians is his primary goal for this term.
BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes predicts Bitcoin's price will rise alongside surging oil and energy prices if tensions between Iran and Israel boil over.
Veteran trader Peter Brandt believes that the recent rally of Bitcoin still isn’t enough to flip the long-term bearish trend. While BTC did have a brief surge, he insists it hasn’t reached the levels needed to confirm a bullish reversal. Bitcoin needs to break $71,000 first and then confirm that, says Brandt. And while he claims this, other market analysts such as Jesse Colombo and Roman warn that geopolitical tensions and market patterns might bring BTC down even further. Related Reading: Breakout Looms: XRP To Hit $7.5 After ‘Wake-Up Line,’ According To Analyst QCP Capital highlights cautious optimism, noting that the recent sell-off appears shallow, suggesting potential for recovery. As more major traders take time to think about it, Michal van de Poppe thinks this pullback is short-term and would look forward to a retest of $60,000 support before Bitcoin makes a strong rebound. For more than seven months now, Bitcoin has traded in a downtrend with consecutive lower highs and lower lows reinforcing bearish sentiment. Even though the short-lived optimism had some toe-hold moments, according to Brandt’s chart work, the larger pattern isn’t altered. BTC must break through the higher levels of resistance at hand before a shift to the bullish side can be seen. Resistance Levels Holding Bitcoin Back According to Brandt, Bitcoin is caught between two very important levels of resistance. The first is at $70,600, while the second and the all-time high of Bitcoin is at $73,800. Both marks have capped the upward movement repeatedly, and thus, they are a must for Bitcoin’s next major move. Since Bitcoin is unlikely to convincingly break above $71,000, the asset is likely going to stay in its current consolidation scenario, Brandt believes. The recent rally in Bitcoin did NOT disturb the 7-month sequence of lower highs and lower lows. $BTC Only a close above 71,000 confirmed by a new ATH will indicate that the trend from the Nov 2022 low remains in force pic.twitter.com/lFO9A20VPD — Peter Brandt (@PeterLBrandt) October 2, 2024 Roman is also one of the very popular crypto traders with a similar opinion. He noticed that any increases in volume along with price drops usually prove to confirm a strong downtrend. Roman believes that Bitcoin will test the $55,000-$57,000 range before any hope of reversal, which again puts emphasis on struggling to break through at those resistance levels. Moving Averages And Market Uncertainty Bitcoin’s 8-week simple moving average (SMA) has been residing at a level of around $60,526 and has served as resistance recently on the price charts. The price of BTC has hung off that line for a while, which indicates the fact that market participants haven’t really decided if they are buying or selling. It hasn’t traded too low below it to find good strength in order to move up either. For volatility, the Average True Range of Bitcoin is at 5,756. That’s a relatively small level of volatility within the market. That only means the market can generate large moves, but hasn’t built an extreme level of volatility just yet. Dealers are watching closely for these indicators because they could signal where Bitcoin will break next. Geopolitics Tensions And Market Sentiment The Middle East tension is yet another strain in the cryptocurrency market. Of course, Bitcoin has started to surge in volatility alongside growing concerns of global instability. The price of Bitcoin over the last 24 hours has gone down by 3% to reach $61,380. Actually, that fall was part of the general sell-off among cryptocurrencies within which the entire market capitalization went down by 7.6% over two days. As he points out: “Bitcoin and crypto always tank when there are geopolitical fears, unlike precious metals.” The history was mainly the same with Bitcoin when global tensions reached their peak. It would appear the current market is no different from this historical precedent. Related Reading: Could XRP See A 360% Surge By Christmas?
