On Tuesday, Ethereum (ETH) retested the $2,000 support zone, falling below this level for the first time in over a year. Some analysts suggested the second-largest crypto risks a 40% correction as its price attempts to hold its support level “between heaven and hell.” Related Reading: Cardano 125% Pump Coming? Analyst Says ADA ‘Could Be Poised’ For Rally To $2.20 Monday Dump Sends Ethereum To 15-Month Low Ethereum has fallen to a yearly low of $1,993, according to Binance market data. The cryptocurrency has dropped below $2,000 for the first time in 15 months, hitting its lowest price since late November 2023. Amid the February market retraces, ETH failed to hold the $3,000 level, hovering between the $2,500 and $2,8’00 price range for most of the month, despite the February 3 market crash to $2,100. However, the end-of-month correction saw Ethereum bleed 17% to a new low of $2,076. Per Coinglass Data, the King of Altcoins closed last month with a 31.95% decline, registering its first February Close with red numbers since 2018. ETH recovered 17% on Sunday, attempting to reclaim the $2,500 resistance level after US President Donald Trump announced the establishment of a “Crypto Strategic Reserve,” which will have Bitcoin and Ethereum “at the heart” of it. On Monday, ETH fell below the $2,000 mark during the market’s dump and risks dropping another 40%. Ali Martinez highlighted that Ethereum could fall as low as $1,250 if it doesn’t reclaim some key levels. The analyst noted that Ethereum has been consolidating in a parallel channel since 2024, bouncing from the channel’s upper boundary to the middle or lower boundary before bouncing back to the upper zone. Nonetheless, ETH broke below the channel’s lower boundary after dipping below $2,200 last week. If the cryptocurrency doesn’t reclaim the channel’s lower boundary, its price could retrace to the $1,600 or even $1,250 support zones. Martinez noted that Ethereum’s most critical resistance barrier is at the $2,400 mark, where over 2.41 million investors bought 62,68 million ETH. To the analyst, a breakout above this level could “clear the path for a rally toward $3,000.” ETH Following Bear Market Years’ Playbook? As Ethereum retested the barrier “between heaven and hell,” some market watchers pointed out that ETH’s recent performance resembles its 2018 and 2022 price action. According to the pseudonym trader 5.0 Inverted, the king of altcoins is “following 2018 and 2022 bear market price action.” The chart shows that ETH steadily declined throughout those years, retracing 82,71% and 68.29% in 2018 and 2022, respectively. ETH has declined 36.4% year-to-date (YTD), showing a similar performance to the mentioned years. Another trader suggested that Ethereum dropped 60% from $4,200 to $1,800 last cycle before pumping 170% to its $4,800 all-time high (ATH) in the coming months. Based on 2021’s playbook, the cryptocurrency might continue its negative performance before recovering at the end of the year. At the time of writing, ETH has recovered nearly 7% from its drop below $2,000 and trades at $2,135. Featured Image from Unsplash.com, Chart from TradingView.com
An analyst has explained how Ethereum (ETH) could see its price crash to $1,700 if the support level of this technical analysis (TA) pattern fails. Ethereum Could Be In Danger Of Falling Under Ascending Channel Support In a new post on X, analyst Ali Martinez has discussed about where Ethereum could head next based on a pattern forming in its 12-hour price chart. The pattern in question is an Ascending Parallel Channel from TA, which, as its name implies, involves two parallel trendlines that are sloped upwards. Related Reading: Ethereum Recovers To $2,800 As Exchange Outflows Near $1 Billion When the asset is inside this channel, it goes through consolidation towards a net upside. The higher tops in its price trace the upper line of the pattern, while the higher lows draw the lower level. Like other TA patterns, the former line is assumed to act as a source of resistance in the near future and the latter as a point of support. Breaks out of either of these boundaries can imply a continuation of trend in that direction. The Ascending Parallel Channel isn’t the only parallel channel in TA. When parallel consolidation happens towards the downside instead, the formation is known as a Descending Parallel Channel. Neither of these are the most commonly observed type, though, as that title is held by the basic Parallel Channel, which has its trendlines parallel to the time-axis (that is, they have zero slope). Now, here is the chart shared by the analyst that shows the Ascending Channel that the 12-hour price of Ethereum has been trading inside for the last few years: From the graph, it’s apparent that the Ethereum half-day price saw a very brief retest of the Ascending Channel’s lower level recently. The coin found support then, but its value is still floating quite close to the line, meaning that another retest could potentially happen soon. The level is currently situated at $2,500. During the last few years, this line has continuously held for the cryptocurrency, so it’s possible that it may do so again in the near future. “If Ethereum $ETH holds above $2,500, it could rebound toward $4,000 or even $6,000,” notes Martinez. The former target is around halfway through the channel from the current mark, while the latter corresponds to the upper level. The last time that ETH topped out was near the former line. From the current price of the coin, a crash to this target would mean a decrease of more than 39%. It now remains to be seen whether Ethereum will retest the lower level of the Ascending Channel again in the coming days or not. An analyst has explained how Ethereum could see a run toward the $6,000 level if this historical pattern continues to hold for the asset’s price. Ethereum Ascending Channel Could Reveal Its Next Destination In a new post on X, analyst Ali Martinez has discussed a pattern that the 1-week price of Ethereum has potentially been following during the last couple of years. The pattern in question is the “Ascending Channel” from technical analysis (TA), which is a type of Parallel Channel. In a Parallel Channel, the asset consolidates between two parallel trendlines, with the upper level connecting successive tops and the lower bottoms. Related Reading: Solana Extends Rally By 4%, But This Factor Could Lead To A Top These two levels are slopped upwards in the case of an Ascending Channel, as already hinted at by its name. Thus, an Ascending Channel only forms when the asset sets higher highs and lows. The lower level of the pattern can support the price, while the upper one may act as resistance. If either of these levels break, the asset could see a continuation of trend in that direction; a surge above the top line can be a bullish sign, while a drop under the bottom line can foreshadow a bearish outcome. There is also another type of Parallel Channel, called the Descending Channel, which works much in the same way as the Ascending Channel, except for the fact that it points downwards. Now, here is the chart shared by Martinez that shows the Ascending Channel that the 1-week Ethereum price could be trading inside right now: As displayed in the above graph, the 1-week Ethereum price has recently been retesting the bottom level of this potential Ascending Channel pattern. The analyst has highlighted what happened the last few times that the coin made a retest of this line. “Every bounce off this channel’s lower boundary has historically led to an average 130% price increase for Ethereum,” notes Martinez. Thus, if the Ascending Channel continues to hold for the cryptocurrency, it could benefit from another surge shortly “If this pattern holds, a similar move could push ETH to $6,000—provided the $2,300 support level stays intact,” says the analyst. This support level naturally corresponds to the channel’s bottom line, a drop beyond which could potentially invalidate the formation.
