Venture capital firm Paradigm has reportedly raised $850 million for its third fund, supporting early-stage cryptocurrency initiatives led by Coinbase co-founder Fred Ehrsam and ex-Sequoia Capital partner Matt Huang. Increased Venture Capital Interest In The Industry Paradigm’s previous investments include prominent projects like decentralized exchange (DEX) Uniswap and Optimism, a scaling solution for the Ethereum blockchain. According to Bloomberg, with the capital raised in the latest funding round, Paradigm aims to contribute to early-stage crypto work and plans to prioritize such projects in the future. Related Reading: Solana On-Chain Indicators Suggests A Return Of Bullish Sentiment, Is It Time To Buy SOL? The latest fundraising comes after Paradigm’s notable achievement in 2021 when it secured a $2.5 billion fund, the largest-ever crypto investment vehicle at that time. The current surge in interest and confidence within the venture capital community towards the crypto industry has led to increased funds focused on cryptocurrency strategies. Paradigm’s fundraising success reflects the growing market appetite for crypto investments. Recent developments, such as the introduction of Bitcoin ETF and the impending approval of ETFs centered around Ethereum, have fueled the industry’s expansion. Hivemind Capital Joins Paradigm In Venture Funding Race Paradigm is not the only venture firm seeking to raise funds within the crypto space. Hivemind Capital, for instance, is actively raising a specialized $50 million non-fungible token (NFT) fund. Hack VC, which previously announced a $150 million fund, is also exploring opportunities to raise over $100 million for another investment vehicle. These initiatives highlight the increasing interest and confidence in the potential of the crypto industry from venture capitalists. While Paradigm faced criticism, including temporarily removing cryptocurrency references from its website, the firm rectified the situation and reaffirmed its commitment to the industry. Fred Ehrsam transitioned from managing partner to general partner at the firm in October, further solidifying Paradigm’s dedication to fostering crypto innovation. Despite setbacks, Paradigm continues to support crypto projects actively. Recently, the firm led an investment round in Merkle Manufactory, a company responsible for developing software infrastructure for the Farcaster social media network. The funding round valued Merkle Manufactory at approximately $1 billion, underscoring Paradigm’s ongoing belief in the potential and value of the crypto industry. According to a report by data analytics company IntoTheBlock, the volume of high-risk loans on the prominent Aave Protocol is reaching high levels as general loan volume in the DeFi space records multi-year highs. This development is believed to stem from investors exploring various investment strategies in a bid to maximize profits in a highly anticipated crypto bull run. Related Reading: Aave Joins Binance’s BNB Chain Ecosystem – Here’s How Users Benefit Aave’s High-Risk Loans 5% Short Of Liquidation Threshold In its weekly newsletter on June 8, IntoTheBlock highlights that DeFi loans are currently estimated at $11 billion representing the peak value seen in the last two years. As the largest lending protocol, Aave accounts for over 50% of these figures with its users having borrowed about $6 billion. Notably, $1 billion of this debt is categorized as high-risk loans which are placed against volatile collateral. Currently, these loans present substantial risk, with the values of their collateral asset within 5% of their set liquidation threshold. For context, the margin call level or liquidation threshold is a predetermined point at which an asset’s value falls to a level where the lender or broker requires the borrower to add more collateral to maintain the loan or position. Failure to meet this requirement may result in the automatic liquidation of such collateral. When collateral assets hover around this critical threshold as with the high-risk loans on Aave, any minor dip may lead to widespread liquidations. This normally results in the loss of such assets for the borrower. However, in certain conditions where a rapid price decline occurs, the borrower may incur additional losses which may be transferred to their account balance on the lending platform. Furthermore, liquidations from these high-risk loans may exacerbate market volatility, which may result in more price loss, leading to more liquidations in a downward spiral. In addition, many assets getting liquidated at once can create liquidity crunches which can prevent the Aave protocol from operating smoothly. Related Reading: Curve Founder Michael Egorov Clears Aave Loan, Reduces Total Debt To $42.7 Million AAVE Price Overview Meanwhile, AAVE has declined by 5.30% in the last day after facing serious resistance at the $98.20 price zone. Notcoin boasts over 1.6 million holders, surpassing SHIB’s count of 1.4 million. According to CoinGecko data, Notcoin has also witnessed a substantial increase in trading volume, with a 45% surge compared to the previous day, reaching $1.4 billion traded within 24 hours. Notably, it has become the 7th most traded asset on Binance, surpassing Solana (SOL), Dogecoin (DOGE), and XRP. At spot rates, Ethereum prices have been edging lower, recently even retesting the immediate support at $3,700. Even though the coin is still hovering around this level, optimism is high that it will spike higher in the coming days. Ethereum Whales Are Now Accumulating Cementing this outlook, one analyst, citing on-chain events, notes that a bullish narrative may be unfolding. Pointing to the sharp increase in Ethereum addresses controlling over 10,000 ETH, the analyst is now convinced that investors are through with their distribution and are not accumulating, expecting more price gains. Glassnode data cited shows that the number of addresses controlling over 10,000 ETH has been on the uptrend since May 20. Notably, on this day, prices shot strongly, breaking above $3,300 and $3,700. Related Reading: MATIC In Consolidation: Key Price Levels To Watch After A Breakout The uptick boosted sentiment, possibly explaining why whales are now accumulating and not opting to liquidate, accepting to be shaken off from their position following the recent correction from $3,900. When writing, ETH is changing hands at around $3,700, up nearly 20% from May 2024 lows. From the daily chart, the coin is still within a bullish breakout formation after clearing two crucial resistances (now support) at $3,300 and $3,700. Therefore, despite the retracement from $3,900, the uptrend remains. The coin, reading from the candlestick arrangement in the daily chart, will likely ease above $4,100 as buyers set their eyes on $4,900 or 2021 highs. It is highly that these whales are institutions, most of whom are optimistic about what lies ahead and positioning themselves for the leg up. The sharp expansion in whale count means institutions are increasingly confident in the vast Ethereum ecosystem. Continuous Development And Spot ETH ETF Hopes One reason for this positive outlook is the continuous development in the Ethereum network. After the successful activation of Dencun in March, platform developers are now focusing on the upcoming Pectra upgrade. This hard fork is expected to further enhance the network, making transaction processing more efficient and cost-effective. These continuous developments are positioning the network as the preferred host for decentralized finance (DeFi) and meme coin activities. Related Reading: Political Memecoin Mania: Super Trump Token Explodes With 200% Surge Beyond platform-related factors, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) recently approved the listing of all spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs). As a recent Messari report outlined, the XRP Ledger (XRPL) showcased notable progress during the first quarter of 2024. The decentralized public blockchain, which facilitates the transfer of XRP, fiat currencies, and other digital assets, has demonstrated substantial activity. XRP Ledger Burn Rate Slows Amid Low Fees During Q1 2024, XRP, the native token of the XRPL, secured its position as the sixth largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, reaching $34.1 billion (currently $29M). Despite a slight price decrease, XRP’s circulating market cap witnessed a 1.3% growth quarter-over-quarter (QoQ). Related Reading: Forget Fear, Embrace Greed? Bitcoin Soars As Sentiment Turns Red Hot The XRPL employs a deflationary mechanism by systematically burning transaction fees. This process exerts downward pressure on the total supply of XRP, which stands at 100 billion tokens. Since the inception of the XRP Ledger, approximately 12 million XRP have been burned. However, the low burn rate during Q1 can be attributed to the network’s relatively low transaction fees (less than $0.002 per transaction). Additionally, 1 billion XRP is released from escrow to Ripple each month, with any unutilized tokens being placed into new escrow contracts. This pattern will continue until the remaining approximately 45 billion XRP becomes liquid; at this point, the deflationary pressure from burned fees will be the primary variable affecting supply. While XRP’s price decreased marginally 0.1% QoQ, lagging behind the overall crypto market’s 63.0% increase, it rose 14.8% year over year (YoY). Inscription-Fueled Transactions Propel XRPL Daily Payments The report highlights that revenue in the XRPL is measured as total fees collected by the network, which are subsequently burned, contributing to the redistribution of wealth from transaction fee spenders to XRP holders. Network activity showed significant growth, with active addresses and transactions increasing by 37% and 113% QoQ, respectively. A substantial portion of transaction activity on the XRPL stemmed from inscriptions, a transaction type popularized in early 2023. Over 30 million transactions were sent to a single account by approximately 45,000 accounts engaged in inscription-related activities. According to Messari, inscriptions, facilitated by XRP Script, played a key role in driving the surge in daily payments, which soared 350% QoQ to 2 million transactions. Related Reading: $2.9 Billion In Mt. Gox Bitcoin On The Move For The First Time In 5 Years, Where Is It Headed? Lastly, the report notes that the XRP Ledger blockchain witnessed a net increase of 150,000 accounts, driving the total number of accounts up by 3.1% to 5.15 million in Q1. However, new addresses decreased 12.4% QoQ to 183,000, primarily due to the high number of addresses created in Q4, coinciding with the inception of inscription activity. As of press time, XRP is valued at $0.5279, down 2.5% in the past 24 hours and 3.5% in the past seven days, which is in line with the broader market trend.
