The Aave (AAVE) market suffered significant losses in the past week as price declined by 17.07% according to data from CoinMarketCap. While the DeFi token has shown some stability in the last 24 hours, certain market indicators suggest the bearish storm may be far from over. Related Reading: DeFi Exploits Plunge 40% In 2024, But Centralized Exchange Losses Soar – Report AAVE Could Crash By 30% If Signal Holds In a recent post on social media platform X, crypto analyst Ali Martinez shared a hawkish prediction on the AAVE market. According to Martinez, the TD Sequential indicator has presented a sell signal on the AAVE weekly chart, suggesting a major decline on the horizon. In trading, the TD Sequential developed by Tom DeMark is used to identify potential turning points in price trades. It basically indicates when an asset’s price is overextended in a particular direction and due for a reversal. Based on Martinez’s forecast, if the TD Sequential sell signal holds, AAVE could undergo a significant correction falling to around $264. However, in the presence of overwhelming selling pressure, the L2 token could be headed for $203, indicating a possible 29.5% decline from AAVE’s current price. Interestingly, this bearish prediction is backed by other indicators. Firstly, Relative Strength Index indicator has a value of 62.57 indicating that AAVE is still far from the oversold zone and may experience further decline in the coming weeks. Furthermore, the asset’s 100-day simple average is also far below the current price which can be interpreted as another bearish signal. Clearly, there’s much need to apply caution in engaging the present market. At press time, AAVE trades at $290.04 after a slight 2.48% gain in the last 24 hours. However, its daily trading volume has dipped by 48.99% which may potentially indicate that selling pressure is beginning to ease up. Most recently, NewsBTC reported that Aave registered $35 billion in total net deposits, representing an all-time high value since 2021. In addition to this, the DeFi protocol is preparing to launch its V4 network upgrade that is expected to introduce advanced risk tools and unified liquidity among other benefits. According to data from DeFiilama, AAVE continues to rank as the second largest DeFi protocol with a Total Value Locked (TVL) of $20.4 billion. The Aave community has pushed back against the proposal, questioning whether it addresses the core risks.
Leading decentralized finance (DeFi) platform Aave has reached a significant milestone, hitting $35 billion in total net deposits. This marks Aave’s new all-time high (ATH) in net deposits since 2021. Aave Hits $35 Billion In Net Deposits – What’s Ahead? In an announcement made yesterday, the leading DeFi lending protocol Aave revealed that it had reached a new ATH in net deposits since 2021. With $35 billion in net deposits, Aave has solidified its position as the largest DeFi protocol at the time of writing. Related Reading: AAVE Price Soars 26% In A Single Week — Will Rising FOMO Lead To A Bust? To put this into perspective, Aave’s net deposits were $5.5 billion at the end of 2022, increasing to $10 billion by the close of 2023. The current figure of $35 billion at the end of 2024 reflects an astounding surge of over 535% in just two years. The year 2024 proved to be transformative for Aave, with the protocol experiencing heightened user adoption across multiple blockchains. Throughout the year, Aave added support for five new markets, including BNB Chain, Scroll, ZKsync Era, and Ether.fi. According to the announcement, Aave is poised to expand further by potentially adding support for six additional blockchains. These include Mantle, Sonic, Linea, BOB, Spider Chain, and Aptos, pending approval by the Aave decentralized autonomous organization (DAO). For the uninitiated, a DAO is a blockchain-based entity governed by smart contracts and decentralized voting, where decisions are made collectively by token holders without any central authority. DAOs enable transparent, democratic management of protocols in a trustless environment. In addition to expanding to new blockchain markets, Aave launched its latest protocol upgrade, Aave V4. This upgrade introduces significant improvements, such as enhanced modularity, reduced governance overhead, optimized capital efficiency, and innovative features like the Hub and Spoke liquidity architecture. Moreover, Aave’s decentralized, overcollateralized stablecoin GHO is set to witness increased adoption. Plans are in motion to expand its cross-chain support across various smart contract platforms, including Coinbase’s Base and Avalanche (AVAX), by early 2025. DeFi To Make A Comeback In 2025? Following Donald Trump’s victory in the November 2024 U.S. presidential election, DeFi tokens have experienced a significant surge, driven by optimism surrounding favorable cryptocurrency regulations under the new administration. Related Reading: Chainlink And AAVE Surge After Trump’s Crypto Project Invests In Both Additionally, DeFi protocols have become increasingly secure, fostering greater user trust and leading to higher deposit volumes and a larger total value locked (TVL). A recent report highlighted that DeFi exploits decreased by 40% in 2024 compared to 2023, signaling improved security across the ecosystem. In addition, Q1 2025 is expected to be bullish for Ethereum (ETH), the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap, and home to the largest DeFi ecosystem. A positive price action for ETH is expected to benefit major DeFi tokens such as AAVE, Curve (CRV), Compound (COMP), and others. That said, the Solana (SOL) DeFi ecosystem is rapidly gaining traction and catching up with Ethereum in terms of adoption. This development could propel Solana-based DeFi tokens, such as Orca (ORCA) and Raydium (RAY), to reach new highs. At press time, ETH is trading at $3,461, up 4% in the past 24 hours. Aave (AAVE), the leading decentralized finance (DeFi) lending protocol, has captured the spotlight with an extraordinary surge of over 200% since November 5. Outperforming the broader market, AAVE has reached its highest levels since 2021, marking a remarkable recovery and reaffirming its dominance in the DeFi ecosystem. Related Reading: ONDO Exchange Inflows Grow – Volatility Ahead? Key metrics from IntoTheBlock underscore AAVE’s unmatched position in the lending sector. With an impressive 45% market share, it remains the top choice for users seeking decentralized borrowing and lending solutions. With AAVE trading at multi-year highs and on-chain data suggesting robust activity, the altcoin’s trajectory remains a focal point for investors and analysts alike. The question is whether the price can sustain this momentum and reach new all-time highs in the coming months. AAVE Keeps Growing Aave (AAVE) has shown consistent growth over the past year, solidifying its position as a market leader in the DeFi lending sector. Known for its innovative approach to creating non-custodial liquidity markets, Aave enables users to earn interest on supplied and borrowed assets at variable interest rates. This approach has made Aave a go-to protocol for decentralized borrowing and lending. For years, Aave has been at the forefront of DeFi innovation, continually enhancing its platform and user experience. Its success is evident in its market dominance. Metrics from IntoTheBlock highlight Aave’s unrivaled leadership, boasting an impressive 45% market share in the DeFi lending space. This dominance is further emphasized by Aave’s staggering total value locked (TVL), which stands at $21.2 billion—almost equal to the combined TVL of all other lending protocols. Related Reading: Ethereum On-Chain Metrics Looking Strong – Momentum Building For ETH? Such figures underline Aave’s critical role in the DeFi ecosystem. Its established presence and robust infrastructure position it as a key player in the event of a broader DeFi resurgence. Should the sector heat up in the coming weeks, Aave is likely to attract significant attention from investors and traders. Price Targets Fresh Supply Levels Aave (AAVE) is currently trading at $366, following a surge to a multi-year high of $396 just hours ago. The altcoin continues its upward momentum as it approaches the critical $420 resistance level, a threshold last held in September 2021. This mark is seen as a pivotal area for AAVE’s next phase of price action, with many analysts expecting a significant reaction once tested. If AAVE manages to hold its current levels and sustain the bullish momentum, the next logical target would be the $420 resistance zone. Breaking above this level could signal a continuation of its multi-month rally, setting the stage for even higher price targets as investor confidence builds. On the downside, failure to maintain support above the $320–$340 range could lead to a broader correction. A move below this zone might push the price lower, erasing some of its recent gains and dampening bullish sentiment in the short term. The price of Ethereum recorded an overall decline of 2.08% in the past week in line with the general performance of most altcoins. While the prominent cryptocurrency struggles to make any significant breakout past $4,000, certain developments on its underlying network have drawn investors’ attention. Related Reading: Ethereum Price Aims Higher: A Smooth Path To $4,000 and Beyond? Ethereum Weekly Fees Rise By 18% Amid DeFi Ecosystem Boom In a recent report on December 13, crypto analytics company IntoTheBlock stated that weekly Ethereum network fees rose by 17.9% in the past week reaching an estimated $67 million – the highest-ever value since April. According to analysts at IntoTheBlock, these high network fees can be attributed to ETH’s price balancing as Bitcoin retraced to $100,000. In addition, there has been a significant increase in DeFi activity on the Ethereum blockchain. Providing more insight into Ethereum’s vibrant DeFi ecosystem, the Satoshi Club highlights that DeFi lending has been on the rise, with traders leveraging their Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) and Wrapped Ethereum (WETH) to borrow stablecoins. These wrapped assets allow users to maximize their collateral utility by tapping into the liquidity and stability of DeFi protocols while maintaining exposure to major cryptocurrencies i.e. Bitcoin and Ethereum. Notably, the demand surge for lending drove interest rates to exceptional levels, now exceeding 10% on average and reaching as high as 40% on certain platforms. Interestingly, these figures mirror the peak dynamics seen in the 2022 bull market. Aave, one of Ethereum’s major DeFi protocols with a TVL of $22.46 billion has been a focal point on this increased DeFi activity, recording an impressive $500 million in net inflows over the last week. While heightened network activity driven by increased DeFi activity can indicate growing interest in the Ethereum network, investors should note that elevated Ethereum fees will pose challenges for smaller users being rewarding only for those who can capitalize on high interest rates. The cryptocurrency market has been fairly positive over the past week, with the decentralized finance (DeFi) sector and tokens particularly impressive over the last seven-day span. Aave price, for instance, seems to have taken off after making a somewhat tame performance in the remarkably bullish month of “Moonvember.” According to data from CoinGecko, the price of AAVE has increased by more than 26% over the past week. However, the latest on-chain data suggests that the DeFi token may face some hurdles in its bullish trajectory and suffer a slight setback in the short term. Is AAVE Price Going To Witness A Correction? In a recent post on the X platform, prominent crypto analyst Ali Martinez revealed that the investor sentiment around the Aave token has become increasingly positive following its latest price upswing. This on-chain observation is based on the Social Volume and Weighted Sentiment metrics. Related Reading: Bitcoin Daily Bollinger Bands Expand, Why BTC Price Could Rise To $120,000 As Early As Next Week The Social Volume metric measures the total number of mentions of a particular crypto asset on various social media platforms in the last 24 hours. In essence, it tracks the degree of discussion surrounding a cryptocurrency on social media. Meanwhile, weighted sentiment is a product of sentiment score and social volume. Typically, there is a significant shift in this metric when the social volume is high and there is a specific average sentiment (either positive or negative). Based on data from Santiment, the social volume and positive sentiment around the AAVE price action have grown significantly over the past few days. As shown in the chart below, this soaring positive sentiment correlates with the Aave price surge over the past week. According to Martinez, a brief price correction might be on the cards for Aave, especially with the crypto crowd seemingly hyped about the DeFi token’s price performance. This is based on the notion — backed by historical data — that crypto prices often in the opposite direction of the crowd. Recent price action data shows that the Aave price might be falling into something of a consolidation range, having failed to hold above the $380 mark on Friday. As of this writing, the Aave token is valued at $365, reflecting a mere 0.4% increase in the past 24 hours. DeFi Coins Back At It? US President-elect Donald Trump’s World Liberty Financial (WLF) has made a substantial multi-million-dollar investment in Ethereum (ETH), Aave (AAVE), and Chainlink (LINK), leading to sharp price increases in AAVE and LINK. According to on-chain analysis shared by Lookonchain via X and verified through Etherscan, the fund purchased approximately $10 million in ETH, $1 million in AAVE, and $1 million in LINK on December 11. These are the fund’s first recorded acquisitions of both AAVE and LINK, while overall purchases in the last 12 days total around $30 million in USDC spent to secure more than 8,000 ETH at an average price of $3,701. In the past 9 hours, the World Liberty Multisig wallet spent 10M $USDC to buy 2,631 $ETH at $3,801, 1M $USDC to buy 41,335 $LINK at $24.2, and 1M $USDC to buy 3,357 $AAVE at $297.8.https://t.co/mtD0c2tvvo pic.twitter.com/B11KvcwRJQ — Lookonchain (@lookonchain) December 12, 2024 Shortly after the news surfaced, AAVE soared roughly 31% in the past 24 hours, and LINK rose by about 23.5%. Related Reading: Chainlink Price Shines With 40% Rally — Is $28.5 Possible? The surge coincides with World Liberty Financial’s recent decision to integrate Chainlink’s technology. Last month, WLF announced that it “will leverage Chainlink as the standard for onchain data and cross-chain interoperability” to secure its protocol ecosystem. The press release described Chainlink as “the most secure solution for solving critical security, interoperability, and onchain data problems” while noting that this would “kick off the next wave of DeFi mass adoption” for WLFI. The platform plans to integrate Chainlink Price Feeds on Ethereum mainnet in anticipation of deploying a World Liberty Financial version of Aave’s v3 instance, pending governance approval. Related Reading: Whale Activity Sparks Chainlink Rally, $52 Target On Traders’ Radar In October, WLF submitted a proposal on the Aave governance forums seeking to deploy its own Aave v3 environment. Aave founder Stani Kulechov has confirmed that WLF’s instance is not a direct fork of Aave’s code but operates as a segregated version tied to separate, KYC-compliant front-ends. While this means WLF is tapping into the largest smart contract-compatible public blockchain and leveraging core decentralized finance primitives, it also maintains stringent compliance requirements. The project is initially limited to accredited investors within the United States. AAVE, which has risen by roughly 138% over the last five weeks, is also showing technical resilience. Today’s price action pushed it above the 0.5 Fib level at $356.84 (drawn from the all-time high to the cycle low). If this level holds on a weekly closing basis, upside targets could include the 0.618 Fib at $430.29, the 0.786 Fib at $534.87, and ultimately the ATH from May 2021 at $668. Chainlink’s performance over the past five weeks has been particularly strong, posting a gain of more than 175%. The most critical technical resistance level now appears to be the 0.5 Fibonacci retracement at $28.88. A decisive break above this level could open the path to the 0.618 Fib at $34.57, the 0.786 Fib at $42.67, and potentially the all-time high (ATH) from May 2021 at $53. Ethereum (ETH) appears to be finally waking from its slumber, surging nearly 37% in the past week following Bitcoin’s (BTC) all-time-high (ATH) rally. Spot Ethereum ETFs Record Daily Inflows Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency with a market cap of approximately $404 billion, is now gaining ground on BTC, with the platform’s ETH token jumping more than 35% over the past week. Related Reading: Ethereum Could Be Set To Explore New Highs As On-Chain Metrics Light Up While the broader digital assets market has been buoyed by Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 US presidential election, additional factors may also be driving the recent industry boom, especially for ETH. A key data point is the substantial inflow of funds into spot ETH ETFs. On November 11, US-based spot ETH ETFs attracted a record $295 million in daily inflows, the highest amount to date. In comparison, the previous peak for daily inflows into spot ETH ETFs was $106 million, recorded on the first day these ETFs launched in July 2024. According to data from SoSoValue, the record inflows were led by Fidelity’s FETH ETF, which drew in $115.48 million. BlackRock’s ETHA followed with $101.11 million, Grayscale’s ETH with $63.32 million, and Bitwise’s ETHW with $15.57 million. At the time of writing, the total value of net assets held across various spot ETH ETFs stands at $9.72 billion, representing just over 2.41% of Ethereum’s total market cap. Meanwhile, cumulative net outflows from all spot ETH ETFs amount to $41.30 million. ETH Price Action And Resurgence In DeFi Renewed interest from institutional investors in Ethereum ETFs amid record daily inflows appears to be contributing positively to ETH’s price action. Related Reading: Survey Finds Almost 70% Of Ethereum Institutional Investors Engaged In ETH Staking Throughout much of 2024, ETH lagged in price performance among major cryptocurrencies such as BTC and Solana (SOL). However, Q4 2024 holds potential for a dramatic turnaround in ETH’s momentum. Analysis shared by Leon Waidmann, Head of Research at Onchain Foundation indicates that ETH staking levels are at an ATH, while the token’s reserves on crypto exchanges is heading toward record lows. This combination of record-high staking levels and reduced supply on exchanges suggests a potential supply squeeze, which could trigger a parabolic rally for ETH. Additionally, the ETH/BTC ratio seems to be recovering after prolonged losses, with the trading pair rising from 0.034 to 0.040 before dipping to 0.037 at the time of writing. The next major resistance for this pair lies around 0.040, and a successful breakout from this level could lead to more gains for ETH over BTC. At press time, ETH sits about 32% below its ATH value of $4,878 recorded in November 2021. Further, Ethereum’s decentralized finance (DeFi) activity seems to be picking steam. Data from DefiLlama shows that the total value locked (TVL) across Ethereum-based DeFi protocols currently sits at $62.36 billion, up from about $24 billion in November 2023. Over half of this TVL is tied to the ETH staking platform Lido, which holds close to $33 billion. Lido is followed by the DeFi lending protocol Aave with $15.21 billion and EigenLayer with $14.57 billion. That said, concerns remain regarding ETH’s “ultrasound money” narrative due to the token’s high issuance rate. At press time, ETH trades at $3,291, up 3.1% in the past 24 hours.
